Readings: There will be no course booklet, but readings will be from the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, New Testament, and Apocrypha and from other written material that will sent to those enrolled in the class as PDF attachments.
Those who do not own a Christian Bible may wish to purchase one online. I recommend The New Oxford Annotated Bible with the Apocrypha (currently $26.70 in paperback on Amazon).
Description: This course will focus on specific texts from the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, the New Testament, and Apocrypha in which women play an important role. In addition to reading these texts, we will discuss the literary and theological transformation of these stories and the women in them in rabbinic and/or Christian interpretation, in the middle ages, and in more recent scholarly analyses, including feminist midrash/exegesis.
