Hunger has become an increasing challenge in our community, with individuals and families of all ages, including those who never would have imagined themselves food insecure, finding they are no longer in a position to regularly put food on their table. Among the obstacles in addressing this challenge has been the lack of a kosher food pantry in Upper Fairfield County.
We are thrilled that our partners at Schoke Jewish Family Service are partnering with our friends at Congregation B’nai Israel in Bridgeport to launch the first kosher food pantry in Upper Fairfield County this year. In addition, Schoke JFS plans to launch a mobile food pantry this fall.
In order to fully fund the first year operations of these new kosher food pantries, our Federation has created a matching grant of $15,000, matching every contribution received for this purpose in response to our 2021 annual gala dollar-for-dollar up to $15,000. With your help, we can provide Schoke JFS with a total of $30,000, the full first year operating costs of these new kosher food pantries.
In order to qualify for the match, contributions (or pledges) must be made by Friday, March 26, 2021. If you wish to make a pledge, pay by check or special fund, please email Janet Wainright, Development Manager jwainright@jewishphilanthropyct.org
